Elizabeth M. Claffey uses photography as a catalyst for storytelling and a means of communication. Born in Chicago in 1980, her love of photography began with a Pentax K1000 she received for her thirteenth birthday.  Claffey has used photography to see and translate the world ever since.  Her work focuses on the moments in between, the value of everyday life, and the complexity of each individual.

Claffey received her BA from Earlham College in 2003 where she was awarded academic and disciplinary honors.  She then attended the graduate program at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies.  Her work has been recognized by Yankee Publishing, PDN Magazine, The Eddie Adams Workshop, and various other newspapers and publications including USA Today and The Dallas Morning News.  In 2005 she received the Canon Light Scholarship Award for The Home Front, a photo documentary on the wives of two brothers deployed to combat in Iraq.
